  1. Printer price + shipping + installation (obvious)
  2. Materials cost per part (include waste factor)
  3. Average build time per part → convert to labor cost
  4. Post-processing time per part → convert to labor cost
  5. Expected failure rate (account for reprint cost)
  6. Maintenance costs per year (belt replacement, screen, firmware upgrades)
  7. Opportunity cost of downtime (what's a week of lost production worth?)
  8. Support & training costs (free? paid?)

Plug those numbers in, and you'll see that a $3,200 printer can easily cost $5,000 over 18 months, while a $4,500 used Formlabs Form 2 – with lower failure rates, better support, and integrated software – might actually end up cheaper after 100 prints.

I'm not saying you should only buy Formlabs. I'm saying look beyond the price tag. That's the lesson that cost me two grand and a lot of pride.
